Regular visits to Sri Lanka have inspired this collection with its emphasis on energy, colour, customs and culture, expressed on the surfaces of canvas and paper of varying scale. The artist’s preoccupation with the dynamics of atmosphere in the landscape, movement and an interaction between the human figure and its environment underpin the body of work. The precarious balancing of stilt fisherman wrestling with the elements to make a simple living played a pivotal role of early inspiration, complemented with a developing series of paintings where local character, architecture and landscapes have become a continuing source of inspiration.
